The Borealis Orchestra

A professional orchestra from the North of England, playing music from light classical pieces to folk-tunes, show songs and tunes from the worlds of TV and film.

Who we are

Founded by Musical Director Marco Romano in 2022 and consisting of some of the most talented professional musicians from throughout the North of England, we specialise in performing music with a relaxed and nostalgic feel. Music that is tuneful, light-hearted and often familiar.

With our passion for music, and vibrant playing, we ‘wow’ audiences of all ages wherever we perform.

What we do

We specialise in playing ‘light music’. Music with lovely melodies you hear and can’t quite name, which are wonderfully enjoyable to listen to, and quite possibly dance to as well. Our programmes can include pieces such as Viennese waltzes, tunes from operettas, folk-tunes, show songs and tunes from the worlds of TV and film. The Borealis Orchestra is delighted to bring this music to audiences old and new, sharing with them our love for this beautiful but neglected repertoire.

Where we can perform

As well as formal concert settings, we can play almost anywhere, to enhance any occasion such as weddings, celebrations, formal diners, and afternoon teas.

We have the versatility and expertise to tailor-make a programme to suit your budget and audience. Our relaxed and engaging family-friendly concerts are already very popular, and we love seeing children and their families experiencing orchestral playing for the first time.

If your choral society needs an orchestra, or your festival needs music everyone will enjoy, one call to us can solve that.

The orchestra’s core is 12 players, but this can be expanded when needed for larger events.
